What are the benefits of winning the South African Politician of the Year Award?

Why the soldier statue? 

Because we believe that a soldier is someone who fights for their country and in what they believe. even if it means death. A soldier is the man or woman who fights for their government. A soldier is an active, loyal, or militant follower of an organization

Who can nominate the SAPA Awards?

Anyone is welcome to nominate an MP in the nominations process.


How do I nominate?

Members of the public are asked to submit their choice for an MP or Political Party they think has made a significant contribution in an SA policy area. Anyone who nominates should explain in around 200 words why their choice deserves to win in the category in which they’ve been nominated.


What happens with my nomination?

The nominations are then reviewed by Jozi Media and a shortlist of three MPs for each category is drawn up. MPs are shortlisted based on the breadth and quality of the arguments put forward for their nomination, but will also take into account the number of nominations received.


When will the shortlist be announced?

January 2017


What happens with the shortlist?

Once the shortlist is announced, voting will open.


Who can vote in the SAPA Awards?

Voting is only open to the public.


Why have some categories been changed?

The awards have been refreshed to reflect the policy areas in the South African Parliament.


How many categories are there?

There are 16 categories in total this year.
